Portimão is located towards the west of the Algarve and borders Lagos to the west, Monchique to the north, Lagoa to the south-east and Silves to the east. Portimão is 69.5 kms west of Faro airport.
General information - . Portimão has recently undergone a complete redevelopment of its promenade making the front clean and pedestrianised. Looking over the estuary, you can see Ferragudo and its sandy beaches. Portimão is the second largest city in the region. The two bridges in the area, are the most used and photographed in the region with one reported as being constructed from the left over metal from the Eiffel Tower. The total land area is 183km².
Facilities - The city has an auditorium, and exhibition centre which hold the yearly Better Living in Portugal (BLiP) exhibition and in October 2008, to the north of the city, the long awaited Algarve Race Track (ParkAlgar or Autodromo do Algarve) was completed giving way to the motorbike GP, A1 motor racing and testing from Formula 1 teams.
