Tavira is situated in the east Algarve and is bordered by Loulé in the north-west, Alcoutim in the north-east, Castro Marim in the east, Vila Real de Stº António in the south-east, São Bras de Alportel in the west, and Olhão in the south-west. Tavira is 40.1 kms east of Faro airport.

General information - Tavira is one of the up and coming areas of the Algarve. Until recently, Tavira has remained quaint with it small cobble roads and river running through its heart. Money from Ireland and wealthy developers have transformed this quiet corner into a bustling place to live and invest. The city consists of two parts, joined by a Moorish bridge that dates back to the 18th century and crosses the river Gilão. The outskirts of the area are still relatively rural although development is creeping in. The beach for this town lies past the salt pans and can be reached by a ferryboat that takes the visitor to the sand-bar island known as Ilha de Tavira which is part of the Ria Formosa nature park. The total land area of Tavira is 607.17 km².

Facilities - Tavira has two golf courses and a lot of history which can be seen throughout with its 37 churches.
